Scott Smith Receives Academic Excellence Award
The Academic Excellence Award was given to Scott Patrick Smith on May 2, 2008 at the annual International MBA Graduation Luncheon. The award is given each year to the graduating International MBA student who best exhibits leadership qualities and makes the strongest academic contribution to the International MBA Program. The Academic Excellence Award recipient is chosen by faculty and fellow students in the International Program.
Scott Smith was born in Kansas City, Missouri; the only son of Ken and Patty Smith. He developed an interest in foreign cultures at an early age thanks to extensive international travel with his family. He completed his undergraduate degrees in International Business and Spanish at Missouri State University and La Universidad de Latinoamericana in San José, Costa Rica.
After a short time working with a foreign language consulting organization, Scott enrolled in the University of Memphis IMBA program. Participating in the Spanish language track, he realized his internship with FedEx express at the Monterrey International Airport. The experience afforded him the opportunity to lead a project focused on reducing the detention times of imports held in Mexican Customs. Scott is currently interviewing for a full-time position.
